Emergency Child Care Services

The goal of the emergency child care program is to support the ability of CF members to be available for duty if their child care plan fails. This is accomplished through assuring that families have access to emergency child care services that respond to sudden and unforeseen needs. Child care services can be offered to CF families during short-term crises until they are able to make longer-term child care arrangements. It is expected that the emergency situation be resolved within a 24-72 hours period.

Examples of qualifying situations:

  • When a CF member is away on duty and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable
    due to illness;

  • When a CF member is away on duty and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable
    due to a family emergency;

  • When the CF member is required to report for duty on short notice and the spouse/caregiver is unavailable;

  • When a single parent or both parents are CF members and CF duty requirements are such that the regular child care provider is unavailable.

  • Other situations may qualify.

The MFRC compiles and updates a variety of childcare resource listings, which are available by stopping by the Winnipeg MFRC during regular working hours. Listings include:

  • Licensed daycare centres and family home daycare listed by region of the city.
  • Community child care providers and family home daycares.
  • Long term child care services.
  • Extended hour child care resources.
  • 24hr Child care and health support services
  • Teen babysitters list.
